Back in August 2020, we took on a Digital Marketing Apprentice to look after our social media, website and business blog. One apprenticeship passed and a new role as Digital Marketing Assistant later, we decided it was time to extend our marketing department further.

As the first apprenticeship had worked out so well for us, we felt that this was the way to go again. We advertised and a few weeks later, Ben was joining us!

Ben has fitted into our marketing team brilliantly and is already proving to be a huge help when it comes to creating content for our various platforms.

To find out more about Ben, his role and his career aspirations, we recently sat down for a chat…

An Interview with Ben

What is your education history?

I finished high school abruptly in the middle of the pandemic (very unhelpful!) before spending some time at a training centre. Unfortunately, I felt my skills weren’t progressing there so it was time to look for something else. I began looking for Digital Marketing apprenticeships as this is something I had enjoyed at school and I thought my hobby, photography, would fit in well with it.

I spotted the apprenticeship at The Edwards Company and applied straight away.

Which tasks are you enjoying in your role so far?

I love going to events with our clients!

I also enjoy editing photos and videos and writing creatively for blogs.

As a child what did you want to be when you grew up? Are there any similarities between that and your role now?

I either wanted to be a photographer or a graphic designer – my role now involves both of those things so it’s very similar!

Favourite way to spend your lunch break?

On the sofa, watching videos and eating.

What is the name of your course?

Digital Marketer Level 3.

An interview with Ben

What drew you to applying for an apprenticeship with The Edwards Company?

I knew I wanted to do something in Digital Marketing so I applied for a number of local jobs. When I got through to the interview stage with Lisa, I felt like The Edwards Company would be a really good fit for me.

Which team member would you most like to swap jobs with for the day?

Louisa, our Digital Marketing Assistant – that way I’d be able to see what it’s like to be responsible for all the big, important marketing tasks!

What are your future career goals?

To stick with The Edwards Company and see where it takes me – it’s the best place to be and the people are amazing.

What is the most valuable lesson you’ve learnt about your role so far?

It requires a lot of concentration so I’ve had to learn to keep my focus for long periods of time to stay on top of things. I’ve also learnt being creative all the time requires lots of motivation and you won’t always have brilliant ideas straight away.

It was lovely to hear about Ben’s experience at The Edwards Company so far – we’re glad he’s enjoying his time with us!
